Saudi Pro League Chairman Abdulaziz Alafaleq praises Ministry of Sport after Saudi Arabia is chosen to host the 2027 AFC Asian Cup

Saudi Pro League Chairman Abdulaziz Alafaleq has hailed the Ministry of Sport for its sterling work in ensuring the 2027 AFC Asian Cup is to be hosted by Saudi Arabia.
Wednesday’s AFC Congress in Manama, Bahrain saw The Kingdom selected to put on it’s first-ever staging of the continent’s premier football competition.
Alafaleq was full of pride, and thanks, about the immense work that had gone into ensuring the 24-team, 19th edition is played in Saudi Arabia.
He said: “On behalf of the SPL Board, our clubs, and millions of supporters in the Kingdom, we send our congratulations to the Ministry of Sport and the Bid team for successfully enabling Saudi Arabia to be chosen as host for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
“The bid captures the spirit and excitement of Saudi football and our players will look forward to representing their nations and playing in front of our passionate fans.
“As Saudi football continues to grow and reach new heights, we look forward to welcoming teams and supporters from across the region to Saudi Arabia in 2027.”
Saudi Arabia have lifted the Asian Cup on three-separate occasions (1984, 1988, 1996), making them the joint-second most-successful nation. They will aim to bolster this tally in Qatar for the rearranged 18th edition.
An impressive FIFA World Cup campaign witnessed Saudi Arabia beat eventual winners Argentina 2-1 in their Group C-opener.
